Peachtree Settlement Funding Initiates "Adopt-A-Family" as Part of the Hurricane Katrina Relief Effort
BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 2005--Peachtree Settlement Funding employees in Boca Raton, Florida are "adopting" families who were impacted by Hurricane Katrina. After watching the images on television and reading about the stories in the news of all the pain and suffering Peachtree management and employees felt they should do something concrete and immediate.
While embracing and supporting the efforts of the Red Cross, the New Orleans Police and Fire Departments and the many other organizations, Peachtree decided to focus its efforts on a handful of families.
Peachtree started helping its first family with a one thousand dollar donation to Louisiana hurricane victim Tyrone Barrow. Tyrone and his wife rode out the storm and have since been evacuated from their home due to rampant looting in his neighborhood.
Tyrone and his wife have made their way from New Orleans to Baton Rouge to join their son, Darnell. Tyrone's small trucking business is shut down and may have been destroyed. He doesn't really know since he couldn't get to the business to check on it.
Peachtree's director of Structured Settlements, Deborah Benaim, encouraged Peachtree staff to, "Come up with a creative and effective way to make a difference to some of Hurricane Katrina's victims." She went on to say, "This seems to be the most effective means of helping someone right now."
Peachtree will be identifying additional families and is conducting a fundraiser to benefit the American Red Cross.
